How to Use this Resource

Inspiration

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed by the federal government in August 2022, but much about its regulations, programs, and grants remain unknown to the public.  Our team conducted interviews with Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light (MNIPL) staff, constituents, and experts in the field of sustainable energy to compile the information found here.  Because of the breadth of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), rolling out its provisions by federal and state agencies is happening over several years.  This resource will be regularly updated, but may not be current from time to time. Tax information referenced is for general purposes and is best confirmed by a tax professional

After selecting the section, read through the tax credits, grants, and rebates to determine your eligibility.

How to Use this Guide

  • 1. Read through the home, about, and intro pages to fully understand how the IRA works and its goals.

This website is designed for the target audience of individuals, congregations, and nonprofits. Reading through the home, about, and intro pages will ensure that you have enough background information about the IRA to effectively determine your project’s eligibility for an IRA credit or grant and carry it out.

  • 2. Identify which section pertains to the sustainability improvement you are looking to make.

Depending on whether you are looking to buy an electric vehicle, install solar or wind energy, make building renovations, etc., determine which section in the website menu at the top best relates to your project.

  • 3. After selecting the section, read through the tax credits and grants to determine your eligibility.

Not all of the IRA’s tax credits and grants apply to all situations. Depending on whether you are an individual, tax-exempt organization, business, etc., you may or may not be eligible for specific programs. If you are eligible, you can follow to steps given there to claim your credit.
